One-Click Unsubscribe: What Gmail and Yahoo Asked Senders to Support
Why bulk mail needs a machine-readable unsubscribe, and where to read the current provider requirement.
One-click unsubscribe, in the bulk-sender sense, is a standard header that lets a mailbox provider offer the recipient a stop action. Google's Email sender guidelines and Yahoo's sender requirements are the pages to read. They change. A screenshot in a slide from last year is not the requirement.
The point for a sender is simple. If the mail is the kind those guidelines cover, the unsubscribe has to succeed without making the person sign in or persuade you. When it succeeds, you suppress them. You do not start a new sequence from another domain to the same person.
Cold notes and newsletters
A one-to-one reply in an existing thread is not the same message as a bulk campaign. Do not hide an unsubscribe in a way that breaks a personal thread, and do not skip it on a campaign because you called the campaign personal. If you are unsure which bucket a send is in, treat it as bulk.
Sendblox's job is to refuse the next draft after suppression. The header itself is a property of the sending infrastructure. Confirm it on a real message, not on a settings checkbox you have not tested.
Before you publish a change for one-click unsubscribe, write down the date, the record you edited, and the one message you used as a test. A week later, check whether that test still matches production. Provider rules, DNS includes, and CRM fields all move. A page that was true in general can be wrong on your domain if nobody looked again. Keep the send small until that check is dull. One contact, one objective, a person reading the draft. If the test fails, stop the campaign. Do not widen it to see whether a larger list forgives a broken setup.
